Sumi
Terms of Service
Effective and last updated: July 13, 2026 · Version 2026-07-13
These Terms govern your use of Sumi. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Sumi.
1. Who may use Sumi
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are below the age of majority where you live, you may use Sumi only with permission from a parent or legal guardian who has reviewed these Terms with you. Sumi is not offered to children under 13, and you may not create an account for a child under that age.
If a school or organization gives you access, its separate rules may also apply. You remain responsible for following these Terms and your school’s academic-integrity, technology, and privacy policies.
2. Accounts and acceptance
You sign in through an identity provider such as Google, GitHub, or Apple. Keep your provider account secure and give us accurate information. You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless you promptly report unauthorized access.
We record the date and version of the Terms you accept and the Privacy Policy you acknowledge. A material update may require you to review and accept a new version before continuing to use authenticated features.
3. What Sumi provides
Sumi provides note, notebook, planning, study, collaboration, sharing, community, and AI-assisted learning tools. Features may change during beta, and some features may be limited by plan, usage allowance, device, region, provider availability, or technical capability.
Sumi is a study aid, not a school, tutor of record, medical provider, legal adviser, or financial adviser. It does not guarantee grades, admissions, test scores, or learning outcomes.
4. AI-generated material
AI-generated summaries, quizzes, explanations, citations, transcripts, and other outputs can be incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading. Review important outputs against your original source and use your own judgment. A related passage is not necessarily proof that every generated claim is supported.
When you invoke an AI feature, the relevant content is processed by the AI provider identified in the Privacy Policy. Do not submit sensitive material unless you are comfortable with that processing and have the right to do so.
5. Your content and the license you give Sumi
You keep ownership of content you create or upload. You grant Sumi a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, copy, process, transmit, format, and display that content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, improve, and support the service; follow your sharing choices; enforce these Terms; and comply with law.
This operational license ends when the content is deleted, except for limited retention in backups, safety and moderation records, legal obligations, and copies another user lawfully created through a sharing or fork feature before you revoked access.
You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to upload and process your content. Do not upload private information about someone else or material you are not authorized to use.
6. Sharing, collaboration, and public content
Content is private by default. If you create a public link, list a kit in a gallery or school library, invite a collaborator, or post in a community space, you direct Sumi to show the selected content to that audience. Review material before sharing it and remove personal information you do not intend to disclose.
Revoking access prevents future access through Sumi’s active sharing path, but it cannot erase copies, screenshots, exports, or lawful forks already obtained by other people. Public and shared content may be reported and reviewed under the moderation process below.
7. Acceptable use
You may not use Sumi to:
- harass, threaten, exploit, impersonate, or expose another person;
- publish personal information without authorization;
- upload malware, attack the service, bypass limits, or probe other accounts;
- spam, manipulate ratings, automate abusive traffic, or evade enforcement;
- infringe copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
- distribute official or leaked exam questions, answer keys, publisher materials, instructor-only resources, or other protected material without permission;
- use Sumi to cheat or violate an institution’s academic-integrity rules; or
- use the service for unlawful, fraudulent, or dangerous activity.
8. Moderation, suspension, and appeals
Sumi may review reported public or shared content and may delist, unshare, or remove it. We may restrict or suspend accounts when reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, or third-party rights; investigate abuse; comply with law; or enforce these Terms.
Private notes are not an ordinary admin-browsable support surface. Any exceptional access must be narrowly authorized for a user-requested support need, security investigation, or legal obligation and should be logged.
Suspension does not transfer ownership of your content. You may contact support@sumichi.app to appeal. Sign-out, data export, account deletion, and subscription cancellation remain available even when product participation is restricted.
9. Copyright and privacy reports
If shared content infringes your rights or exposes personal information, report it through the available reporting control or email support@sumichi.app with the URL, the affected material, your relationship to it, and a way to contact you. Knowingly false or abusive reports are prohibited.
10. Paid plans, trials, and cancellation
Paid features are not active until shown as available. When billing is enabled, the price, billing interval, trial length, renewal terms, taxes, and material plan limits will be shown before checkout. A trial may convert to a paid subscription unless canceled before it ends.
You may cancel through the billing portal. Cancellation normally stops the next renewal rather than retroactively refunding elapsed service. Any refund rights shown at checkout or required by applicable law still apply.
11. Third-party services
Sumi relies on services such as identity providers, hosting and database providers, AI providers, file storage, email delivery, and payment processing. Their own terms may apply to their services. Sumi is not responsible for a third party’s independent service or outage, but remains responsible for its own promises and legal obligations.
12. Privacy
The Privacy Policy explains what Sumi collects, why it is processed, the providers involved, sharing controls, retention, deletion, and your choices. It is part of the service’s disclosures but does not reduce rights granted by applicable law.
13. Service changes and availability
The beta service may change, pause, or discontinue features. We will try to provide reasonable notice when a material change affects stored work or a paid feature. Maintain exports of work you cannot afford to lose.
14. Ending your account
You may export your data and delete your account from the account controls. Deletion removes active account data and initiates deletion of separately stored files, subject to the limited retention described in the Privacy Policy. Sumi may terminate accounts for serious or repeated violations, legal requirements, security risk, or prolonged service discontinuation.
15. Disclaimers and liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sumi is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for a particular academic outcome. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sumi will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost grades, opportunities, profits, or data arising from use of the service. These limits do not apply where prohibited or to liability that cannot legally be limited.
16. Disputes and applicable law
Applicable law governs these Terms, and non-waivable consumer protections remain intact. Before filing a formal claim, please contact support with a description of the issue. Both sides agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve it informally for 30 days where permitted.
17. Changes and contact
We may update these Terms as the service changes. We will update the date and version above; material changes may require renewed acceptance. Continued use after required acceptance means the new version applies going forward.
Questions, appeals, or legal notices: support@sumichi.app. Before paid public launch, these Terms should be reviewed with qualified counsel for the operator’s legal identity, location, and applicable consumer requirements.
